The new construct has been designed to enable surgeons to personalize implant to individual patient anatomies.
Vanguard ID is claimed to be the only TKA design that will integrate two individual polyethylene bearings with different articulations on the medial and lateral sides.
Its flexible design enables surgeons to fuse and pair bearings of differing thickness and geometry, helping to accommodate and preserve natural soft tissue.
The company launched the original Vanguard knee system in 2003, which is available in different sizes.
Zimmer Biomet knee business general manger and vice president Todd Davis said: "I believe that our newly released Vanguard Individualized Design will revolutionize total knee replacement.

Missouri Orthopedic Institute’s Dr Tom Aleto said: "In traditional knee design, surgeons typically release healthy soft tissues in an attempt to balance the knee and maintain feasible kinematics.
“Because the Vanguard ID allows me to mix and match components, I am able to individually treat each compartment while maintaining healthy soft tissues.”
