According to the agency, cracking of the leur may result in inadequate treatment due to leakage and may also lead to choking if the fragments of the connector become loose.

MHRA has recommended the healthcare staff to identify the affected feeding tubes and not to use them, and return the unused feeding tubes to the manufacturer.

In addition, if the feeding tube is in situ, it should be checked to ensure that integrity of the luer lock is not compromised.
