Bioelectronic medical research firm Center for Pain & Stress Research has received approval from Health Canada for its Dolphin Vagal Nerve Stimulator (VNS).
The device is intended to treat symptoms like shortness of breath, cough, fatigue, joint and muscle pain, headaches, brain fog, etc. in long haulers.
Dolphin VNS requires no training or clinician supervision and can be used at home or in a clinical setting.
According to the firm, stimulation, when applied to the auricular branch of the vagus nerve (ABVN) yielded positive results for patients with experience long-haul symptoms such as anxiety, fatigue, pain, and brain fog and for patients whose drug therapies are not effective.
The Dolphin VNS sends out minute microcurrent impulses that help muscles relax, the nervous system settles down, and endorphins flow.
Health Canada’s recent approval has made the Dolphin VNS the only government-approved Covid-19 long-haul treatment available to the general public.
Center for Pain & Stress Research spokesperson Yulia Kramarenko said: “Dolphin VNS therapy could be a promising therapy to combat the lingering adverse effects some patients experience with long-haul chronic symptomology.
“It is a safe clinical procedure and an effective treatment for many long-haul symptoms.”
Health Canada’s authorisation was supported by preliminary research which stated that “most long Covid subjects with vagus nerve dysfunction symptoms had a range of significant, clinically relevant, structural and functional alterations in their vagus nerve, including nerve thickening, trouble swallowing, and symptoms of impaired breathing. Our findings so far thus point at vagus nerve dysfunction as a central cause of Covid long-haul.”
The Dolphin VNS Kit consists of a Dolphin device, Vagal Nerve Stimulation accessories, a protocol manual, and instructions for easy application.
The firm said that the Dolphin VNS can be ordered directly from its website.
