US-based orthopaedic implant developer Exactech announced the completion of the first surgeries using the Newton Knee technology.
The latest Newton Balanced Knee technology has user-friendly instrumentation and a modernised graphical user interface.
Using soft tissue balancing technology and an array of pre-clinical data, the Newton Knee can enhance clinical results in total knee replacement patients.
The surgery was performed by orthopaedic surgeons James Huddleston, MD, Stanford University, Raul Marquez, MD, Cornerstone Orthopedic Institute, and Jeffrey R. Ginther, MD, Rush Memorial Hospital.
Exactech said that the Newton Knee platform is integrated with its flagship product Truliant system.
The instruments provide surgeons with more flexible intra-operative alternatives that are ergonomically constructed.
The Newton Knee functions in concert with the ExactechGPS, which offers zero-cost real-time feedback through its potent active technology.
Exactech said that the Newton Knee is an innovative system that combines modern technology with futuristic implants to deliver ideal balance in a repeatable manner.
Exactech CMO and Large Joints senior vice president Adam Hayden said: “We are excited to show the orthopaedic industry how we are Balancing Bodies in Motion with the exciting Newton Knee technology.
“Exactech is on a mission to improve patient outcomes through our unique and powerful approach to soft tissue management, and we are eager to demonstrate how all surgeons can achieve balanced results case after case.”
Orthopaedic surgeon James Huddleston said: “Optimal soft tissue balance, combined with personalised implant placement, has the potential to improve on the historical outcomes of knee replacement.
“Exactech is yet again leading the way with the Newton Knee, merging well-thought-out design and leading-edge technology to deliver real-time operative insights for balanced knee replacement results.”
A limited introduction of the technology, which is now in pilot release, is scheduled for the second part of the year, said the company.
Based in Florida, Exactech markets its products in the US, in addition to more than 30 markets in Europe, Latin America, Asia and the Pacific.
