Olympus has rolled out its new VISERA ELITE III surgical visualisation platform, designed for endoscopic procedures across different medical disciplines.
VISERA ELITE III supports a variety of imaging capabilities in a single system for minimally invasive procedures such as laparoscopic cholecystectomy and laparoscopic colectomy, said the Japanese manufacturer.
According to Olympus, software updates in the future will advance surgical imaging technology and enable customised configurations to support various surgical applications, thereby lowering investment costs.
The new surgical visualisation platform combines the 4K imaging function from the VISERA 4K UHD system with the 3D and infrared imaging features from the VISERA ELITE II system.
Olympus surgical endoscopy global head Kanichi Matsumoto said: “With VISERA ELITE III, we provide a best-in-class surgical visualization platform designed for multiple medical specialties and configurations, allowing HCPs to fully focus on the patient during surgery.
“By incorporating the technologies of its predecessors VISERA ELITE II and VISERA 4K UHD into one platform, VISERA ELITE III enhances the quality of endoscopic surgery, contributes to improved efficiency in the operating room, and hereby elevates the standard of care.”
VISERA ELITE III is also said to support the Olympus-developed narrow band imaging (NBI) technique and fluorescence-guided surgery.
Compatible with existing VISERA ELITE II endoscopes, the new surgical visualisation platform supports standardisation and boosts efficiency in the operating room by giving a variety of observation modes for surgeons, said Olympus.
VISERA ELITE III is also said to allow users to create personalised departmental profiles for a variety of medical specialities, including general surgery, urology, ENT surgery, gynaecology, and others.
With its extended depth of field (EDOF) function and focus-adjustment mode for 4K surgical observation, the system enables accurate endoscopic observations through continuous broad focus and seamless magnification, said the Japanese manufacturer.
Additionally, VISERA ELITE III has the continuous auto focus (C-AF) capability, which is said to automatically change focus in response to the movements of the endoscope and camera head to enable a clearer image capture.
VISERA ELITE III combines Olympus’ decades of experience with Sony Corporation’s advanced digital imaging technology to meet the growing demands of hospitals
Olympus said that Sony Olympus Medical Solutions, its joint venture with Sony honed all the technologies and image processing functions of the system, particularly for medical applications.
VISERA ELITE III will be available in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA), as well as some regions of Asia, Oceania, and Japan from this month or later.
