Biozek Medical has rolled out its new saliva-based Covid-19 rapid antigen test, capable of accurately detecting all known mutating variants of the SARS-CoV-2.
The test can be self-administered by the users or with the help of a healthcare professional and provides results within 15 minutes.
According to the Dutch biotechnology company, the new saliva rapid test is an important tool against mutating variants, amid the rapid spread of Delta variant across the world.
Also, its new Covid-19 rapid antigen test would help fight against the ‘Nasal Swab Fatigue’, defined as the public’s exhaustion of invasive nasal swabbing.
It is an easy, safe, and highly accurate alternative to the more commonly used nasal and nasopharyngeal swab tests, said the company.
Biozek Medical CEO Zeki Hamid said: “Biozek Medical has made an unwavering commitment to support our global healthcare community in the battle against Covid-19 and its variants through our research and development efforts.
“Since the start of the pandemic, we have pioneered the development of highly effective Covid-19 rapid tests. We developed our latest saliva rapid test as a non-invasive test that is convenient and easy to use while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
“Our goal is to make testing accessible, cost-effective and accurate so that we can support global health care needs during this pandemic and beyond.”
The test works by detecting SARS-CoV-2 particles present in saliva, using the same analysis performed on fluids collected with nasopharyngeal swabs.
Also, it identifies viral genomes in the saliva sample using similar molecular methods used for nasal swab testing.
Biozek claimed that its new Covid-19 antigen saliva rapid test is cost-effective, can be easily self-administered, and facilitates wider use in important locations.
The company is engaged in providing a wide range of advanced diagnostic solutions, including in vitro diagnostic (IVD) products to its global customers.
It is specialised in the research and development of point-of-care test kits and medical diagnostic and immunodiagnostic tools.
In response to the global Covid-19 pandemic, Biozek has developed several Covid-19 rapid tests including the Covid-19 antibody rapid test that uses serum, or plasma specimen sample, and two rapid tests that uses either nasal or throat swabbing, or saliva extraction.
