The new patent adds up to the already granted five US patents that comprise a platform portfolio of technologies that use photodynamic polymers for the minimally invasive repair and stabilization of bones.

The Photodynamic System utilizes a flexible balloon catheter which is inserted into the bone and placed across the fracture site.

Through the catheter, a proprietary liquid monomer is infused which expand balloon to aid in the alignment of fractured bone.

The monomer is then illuminated using a special light source which converts into a hardened polymer implant that strengthens and stabilizes the bone during the healing process.

IlluminOss president and CEO Scott Rader said the company continues to file patent applications to build an intellectual property portfolio around its proprietary technology.
