The agreement between BSD Medical and Terumo covers the distribution of MicroThermX in more than 100 countries, including Europe, Western Asia and Africa.
BSD Medical international sales and marketing vice president Sam Maravich said that Terumo is implementing a well-planned marketing strategy for the MicroThermX aimed at geographic expansion.
"We are gaining sales traction in the Western European countries. Terumo is an exceptional partner for BSD, making substantial investments in sales and marketing of the MicroThermX," Maravich added.
The MicroThermX microwave ablation system features a microwave generator, single-patient-use disposable antennas (SynchroWave antennas), and a thermistor-based temperature monitoring system.
Using the synchronous phased array technology, the MicroThermX system provides a wide range of uniform zones of ablation. SynchroWave antennas are used in each ablation treatment.
BSD Medical had received 510(k) clearance from the US Food and Drug Administration for the MicroThermX system. The device also received European CE Mark approval.
