The company has launched the Apollo system following the first-in-man clinical use at the US hospitals.
Penumbra’s Apollo system is a two component surgical instrument designed to aid a physician in the removal of tissue and/or fluids during endoscopic-assisted micro-neurosurgery. The system is used for the controlled aspiration of tissue and/or fluids during surgery of the ventricular system.
The Apollo system combines vacuum, irrigation, and proprietary internal vibration energy to rapidly remove the tissue and fluid through the smallest possible channel without clogging.
Disposable wand of the system is designed to pass through the working channel of various neuro-endoscope trocars.
According to Penumbra, the Apollo system adds internal energy generation to a specialized advanced aspiration tool to surgically address deep bleeding in the brain, a particularly devastating form of acute hemorrhagic stroke.
