LabPON clinical pathology laboratory will now assess and diagnose all clinical histology cases digitally with IntelliSite Pathology Solution instead of with a microscope, allowing it to improve laboratory efficiency, quality and service levels.
Pathology plays an important role in disease detection, specifically with cancer diagnosis. Digital pathology will provide more new ways to get more information from tissue samples and connect with other diagnostic modalities.
Philips Digital Pathology Solutions general manager Russell Granzow said: "Digitization of pathology offers a new way to tackle some of the growing challenges in the field, like higher cancer rates and the massive quantity of slides generated annually at these sites."
Philips IntelliSite Pathology Solution received CE mark approval for primary diagnostics in the EU and Health Canada.
In the US, the solution obtained FDA approval for diagnostic use in the evaluation of HER2 expression in breast cancer and is provided for research use (RUO).
LabPON pathologist Alexi Baidoshvili said: "Transitioning our entire workflow to digital processes demonstrates our commitment to ensuring our patients and clinical colleagues receive the fastest, most effective and best informed diagnoses possible."
LabPON is also collaborating with two other labs in the country, including University Medical Center Groningen and Isala Klinieken in Zwolle, to form a virtual network to share cases in a secured way and directly set up consultations.
