The core element of the bag includes an automated external defibrillator (AED), which can be easily seen in a pocket in the bag. This device can quickly diagnose any suspected heart problems, following which defibrillation can be initiated in case the heartbeat is irregular, weak or has stopped. This portable bag also features a medical emergency kit and video with instructions.

FIFA Medical Committee chairman Michel d’Hooghe was quoted by Joy Online as saying, "Global use of defibrillators is one of the highest priorities for FIFA in our battle to prevent sudden cardiac death on the pitch."

FIFA Chief Medical Officer Jiri Dvorak was quoted by the website as saying that the medics on the pitch side will be trained to use this technology.

"The high specification of equipment in each one of these bags comes as standard and is a first for the world of sport," Dvorak added.
