Octane Orthobiologics will increase its work force of 11 by about 50%. The company will recruit work force locally but also hopes to attract specialists from elsewhere into the area.
Octane Orthobiologics Inc. chief executive officer Dr. Timothy Smith said, adding the jobs will help the local manufacturer of bioactive medical products launch a new line of orthopedic implants.
We will be expanding our technical team to develop and finalize and launch these products, he said.
Since its incorporation in 2007, Octane has been involved in the research and development of new spinal implants for people with degenerative disc disease.
Conventional orthopedic products are generally made with plastic but Octane makes its implants with a biomineral that has similar components to a natural bone, Smith said.
Octane applied for provincial funding under the government’s Eastern Ontario Development Fund.
