Health technology firm Royal Philips and Masimo have announced an expanded partnership to integrate patient monitoring capabilities in home telehealth applications with the Masimo W1 advanced health-tracking watch.
Under the partnership, Masimo’s W1 watch will be integrated with Philips’s enterprise patient monitoring ecosystem to improve telemonitoring and telehealth.
Philips said that the deal combines the expertise of both medical technology firms in monitoring, connectivity, and automation.
Masimo Healthcare chief operating officer Bilal Muhsin said: “Expanding our partnership with Philips in this way is a win-win for patients and clinicians everywhere, and is an important part of our multi-year plan to bring the best of hospital monitoring to the home while continuing to improve access to quality hospital care.”
The Masimo W1 is claimed to be the first timepiece that provides precise, ongoing pulse oximetry measures and other useful health information.
Patient data will be transmitted to the Philips patient monitoring ecosystem for remote clinician oversight via Masimo’s secure health data cloud.
Philips stated that key health indicators will be continuously and remotely monitored by hospital experts while patients move about their homes and go about their everyday activities.
According to the firm, doctors will be able to discharge patients based on patients’ vital signs which will be monitored via Masimo W1 and their physiological status will be tracked via Philips dashboards. This will allow them to spot potential patient deterioration earlier and make more informed interventions.
The Dutch technology firm added that this combination of monitoring and connectivity technologies will generate chances to assist early discharge initiatives, hospital-at-home programmes, and other healthcare initiatives.
Philips Hospital Patient Monitoring general manager Christoph Pedain said: “At Philips, we believe in an open ecosystem of information that enables physicians in their daily routine, allows for them to access and process vital patient information and deploy a wide range of measurements and patient-worn technologies.
“Our integration of the latest Masimo technologies is a testament to that strategy and we are delighted to deepen our relationship with Masimo.”
