Japanese medical device manufacturer Olympus has rolled out its new ultrasound processor, dubbed EVIS EUS Endoscopic Ultrasound Centre Olympus EU-ME3 (EU-ME3).
EU-ME3 is said to address the needs of healthcare professionals for high-quality clear images during the endoscopic ultrasound procedure.
It can be used for endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) imaging to help diagnose lesions in the pancreas, the bile ducts, or those not visible with gastrointestinal endoscopes.
In addition, the device supports the detailed examination of pancreatitis, pancreatic cancer, and the diagnosis of cancer invasion in the stomach and the oesophagus, said the company.
Olympus intends to commercialise the new endoscopic ultrasound processor in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, parts of Asia, and Oceania within this fiscal year.
Olympus endoscopic solutions division head Hironobu Kawano said: “It is said that pancreatic cancer is difficult to be detected in its early stages, and that lung cancer has the highest mortality rate among all cancers.
“With the launch of the EU-ME3, Olympus aims to enhance the standard of care including these diseases and to further improve the quality of life of patients.”
Olympus said that its EU-ME3 is customised to improve various procedures and provides superior image quality and functionality, providing enhanced visualisation.
The device provides substantially enhanced image quality compared to the previous generation model, EU-ME2.
EU-ME3 is equipped with a shear wave quantification feature, which provides quantitative information on the stiffness of tumours and inflamed lesions to enable accurate diagnosis.
The information is crucial for diagnosing the degree of pancreatitis and malignancy of pancreatic cancer during endoscopic ultrasonography, said Olympus.
Endoscopic ultrasound procedures usually involve different types of observation modes, based on procedure type or clinical area.
Olympus claimed that its EU-ME3 offers multiple software options for individual clinical needs along with the basic observation mode.
Furthermore, the device comes with smart and customisable user settings to address needs for multiple specialities and personal requirements.
Its backlit keyboard, simple and easy-to-use large touch panel and trackpad support better operability and easier cleaning, said Olympus.
